Pupil Advocates

Around the school and in the playground you may have noticed that several of our Year 6 pupils are wearing smart blazers. These are the school’s Pupil Advocates. These children have been interviewed by staff and governors for this role and had to apply and meet a job selection criteria. We were looking for good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively. These pupils give up half of their free time and support other pupils in the dining hall and playground. They are paid £10 per term in the form of gift vouchers . We expect this scheme to have the following impact:
· Help new pupils settle into the school quickly and make friends at playtime
· Help younger pupils adapt to the dining hall routines
· Help younger pupils remember table manners and etiquette
It also supports the Pupil Advocates personal development and instils attitudes of responsibility as a preparation for secondary school. The Advocates compliment the work of the School Council whose role is to listen to the views of children and represent those views ensuring teachers take those ideas into account.
